Look, I’m just going to be straight up here. I spent a long ass time putting this together as a Twitter thread and it got basically zero traction and I worked way too hard on this damn thing for less than twenty likes! And since my love for Ted Lasso knows literally no bounds, I figured I’d expand it into blog post form and maybe some people will actually see it. So let’s dive in! Here it is, the Pitch Wars experience from beginning to end as told by the lovely and talented cast of Ted Lasso!
When you are debating whether or not you should enter Pitch Wars (which you should, obviously) …
When you scour the mentors’ wishlists and find the mentor or team you totally vibe with…
As you go through the process of prepping your submission materials…
The night before the application window opens…
That weird moment of calm that overtakes you when you press submit on your application and the whole thing is out of your hands…
When the waiting period starts to get a little rough…
Those lovely moments of self doubt (everyone has them!) …
When you get a full request from one of the mentors you subbed to…
The night before the list of mentees gets posted…
As soon as the list actually goes live (pay attention to the Pitch Wars Twitter because they usually like to post early!) …
When you see your name on the list…
When you see your friend’s name on the list…
When you don’t see your name on the list…
When you don’t see your name on the list and feel like you’ll never find success (which is definitely not true! Pitch Wars is only one path to an agent and even for those selected there’s no guarantees!) …
When you brush yourself off and remember there is no right way to become a published writer and know that you wrote a whole ass book and you are awesome and will keep trying…
When you look around and realize how many amazing writer friends you found along the way…
When you make it to the end…
Thanks for humoring me friends! If you are applying for Pitch Wars, make sure you check out my other Pitch Wars posts! And best of luck to all of you!
