Well, this month’s Owl Crate theme could literally not have come at a better time. As I opened the box and pulled out item after item, I was internally screaming YES! because I don’t know about you, but I’m in the mood to burn it all down these days. The theme for May was Rebels with a Cause, and I love everything about this box and I am SO EXCITED to read this book. Let’s take a look at what was in the box!
In addition to the main book for the month, the box also contained Witchy by Ariel Slamet Ries. This is a graphic novel, which is not usually my thing, but I love the premise of this one (witch against the world) so I’m going to check it out.
These were probably my two favorite items this month because they echo everything I am thinking these days. This sheet of stickers from Nerdy Ink have all kinds of powerful quotes. I’m going to stick these bad boys everywhere. And this magnet from Juniper and Ivy Designs literally had me cheering when I opened it. Is there a more perfect quote for the state of the world right now? I’m not sure. This guy is already hanging above my desk as a constant reminder.
While the stickers and magnet are my faves for timely reasons, these two items will definitely be put to the most use. Little Inklings Design created these potholders with a quote from Heart of Iron (which I loved). They will find a good home in my kitchen. And I was super stoked to see this quote from Sabaa Tahir on a handy canvas straw bag containing reusable metal straws. I’ve been on the reusable straw train for a while now, and finding somewhere to store them is always an issue, so this bag is great. Also, I love Ember in the Ashes hardcore, so quotes from Sabaa will always make me happy.
I am super stoked to read this month’s book, Incendiary by Zoraida Cordova. It was actually on my to buy list, and I love when Owl Crate answers my call and sends me a book I already wanted to read! All you had to tell me was “royal court intrigue” and I’m sold.
I was really excited to see a) this theme and b) the contents of this box show up on my doorstep at a time when it feels like we’re on the brink of some big changes. It is so important to use our voices, and I was thrilled to see a box full of items reinforcing the call to action. Next month’s theme is All the World’s a Stage which is basically made for me, so I’m already counting down the days until it arrives!
