One Sentence Reviews: July 2020

I slowed down a bit on my reading for July, but I still managed to read seventeen books throughout the course of the month, most of them pretty awesome ones. Here’s an overview of my quick thoughts of each of them!

Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert: I knew I was going to love this one and I was right! Full review here.

My Sister the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite: This book blew me away it was so well-written and finely crafted. Full review here.

The Great Alone By Kristin Hannah: Lots of content warnings for domestic abuse, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed reading this one.

Would I Lie to the Duke by Eva Leigh: Eva is one of my few must buys in historical and this book did not disappoint! Full review here.


Where Dreams Descend by Janella Angeles: Please give me all the fantasy based on the theater/performance world because this one was spectacular. Full review here.

Let’s Talk About Love by Claire Kann: I liked the characters in this one, but found the writing a little lacking.

Good Talk by Mira Jacob: I never expected to laugh in a book about racism, but this book just hits all the emotions, from laughter to tears. Full review here.

The Fifth Season by NK Jemisin: Even though this book was not for me, I can appreciate the ridiculously gorgeous writing. Full review here.


The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon: I picked this one up when I was having a bad day and it totally cured my mood. Full review here.

A Song Below Water by Bethany C. Morrow: All I wrote in my comments for this one is “perfection” which is really all you need to know! Full review here.

Heroine’s Journey by Sarah Kuhn: This is one of my favorite series, and this book was my favorite of them so far! Full review here.

Head Over Heels by Hannah Orenstein: I loved Hannah’s previous two books, but this one didn’t hit the mark for me.


Becoming by Michelle Obama: If you’re in the mood to be totally uplifted and then have all of your dreams dashed when you come back to the real world and remember where we are, read this book!

Caressed by Ice by Nalini Singh: I have mixed feelings about this series and I was pretty meh about this book.

The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander: This is probably the most important book I’ll read all year, and you should read it too. Full review here.

Incendiary by Zoraida Cordova: I freakin loved this book so hard, one of the best fantasies I’ve read! Full review here.


Groom of One’s Own by Maya Rodale: This was just an easy read, fun and sweet but nothing earth-shattering.
