One Sentence Reviews: April 2020

If I didn’t have a child, I would be reading so much right now. But I do, and therefore am reading a normal amount, which is still a fair amount of books per month. I’ve really been leaning into fantasy lately (escapism, yay!) so you’re going to start to see more of those, plus some more paranormal than usual, but I ain’t mad about it. Here’s what I read in April:

Some Like It Scandalous by Maya Rodale: Gilded Age romance, need I say much more? See full review here.

Beyond the Highland Mist by Karen Marie Moning: It was fine but not great, and truthfully, I don’t remember much about it at this point.

Dreams of a Dark Warrior by Kresley Cole: I am living for IAD these days and this was one of my top three (so far).

Honey Don’t List by Christina Lauren: It was cute and fun, but none of their recent releases have grabbed me like some of their old titles. See full review here.

A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer: I’m a sucker for a fantasy retelling and this was one of my favorites I’ve read in a long while. See full review here.

A Marriage Most Scandalous by Johanna Lindsey: Lots of consent problems in this one and I really didn’t like the hero.

The Perfect Escape by Suzanne Park: Just what the title promises, it’s a perfect escape! See full review here.

Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh: This world-building is a lot, but I really loved this book and will definitely continue with the series.

Lady Smoke by Laura Sebastian: I really liked this YA fantasy even though the romance felt a little lackluster. See full review here.

Heroine Worship by Sarah Kuhn: Love her and this series but this was not a good time (emotionally) for me to be reading a book set in the wedding world. See full review here.

Fatal Throne (anthology): Overall, this one was a disappointing meh. See full review here.

Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver: Josie’s incredible writing was enough to make up for this super sad and depressing plot (given current circumstances especially). See full review here.

The Other Miss Bridgerton by Julia Quinn: This was my first Bridgerton book and I really enjoyed it!

Valley of the Dolls by Jacqueline Susann: This book is bananas, but very entertaining (warning that it uses f****t quite liberally).

Deliver Me by Farah Rochon: I really liked the heroine, but there are multiple crazy ex-girlfriends in this book and I hate that plot point.

Not That Kind of Guy by Andie J. Christopher: I loved Andie and I (mostly) loved this book. See full review here.

Blacksmith Queen by GA Aiken: Just feed all the fantasy romance directly into my veins please. See full review here.

DNF: Room for Two by Sydney Landon (I don’t need a hero who openly admits to fat-shaming the heroine literally in the first twenty pages, no thank you); Kingdom of Back by Marie Lu (I love Marie, but this book just wasn’t for me)

Overall, a great month of reading! What was your favorite book of the month?
