Hi friends! It’s hard to believe October is already upon us, which means a couple of things. One, Halloween is in full swing. Two, pumpkin spice is everywhere. And three, it’s time for another monthly wrap up! September and October are shaping up to be the busiest months of the year for both me and Matt, which means we are both running around trying to accomplish a million things while also making sure our kid is, you know, cared for. I think we both need to make “learning to say no” one of our New Year’s resolutions! But while I have a minute, let’s take a peek back at September!
Reading: I read nineteen books again in September, which honestly, blows my mind. But that streak will end in October because now I also have Pitch Wars submissions to read (more on that later)! The majority of the books I read in September were truly phenomenal so rather than me listing them all here, instead just go read my favorite reads of the month post because it’s already there for you in one spot! I apologize (not sorry) in advance for adding to your TBRs.
Writing: In August’s round up, I had just turned in the first draft of book two and was still feeling lukewarm about the whole thing. In September, I was lucky enough to be able to jump on a call with my editor and really talk out all the issues, and it was so helpful. There is a lot of work to be done on this one before it is publish-ready, but as I work on revisions, I’m starting to not hate it. And in other writing news, Pitch Wars submissions have been submitted and in less than a month, our mentee will be selected! I am so excited and honored and thrilled with what I have read so far and I can’t wait to dive in further. Stick around for more Pitch Wars updates!
Movies and TV: Real Housewives is basically dominating my TV world these days. We’ve got Potomac, Beverly Hills, and Salt Lake City all at once and it feels like the golden age. I’m also super excited about the new season of the Great British Baking Show, and of course, I am still watching Ted Lasso the minute it drops and I am very scared about this upcoming finale and they better not do what I think they’re going to do or I will riot. I do plan on being back at the movies a little more often in the upcoming months, but people in my city still suck and most of them don’t wear masks so it still feels a little weird. But I did see that Eternals trailer and you know my butt will be in a seat to see Richard Madden in a Marvel movie. Yum. (And yes I realize this pic is from theater not movies or TV but it still counts and also I totally watched the Tony’s in September so there.)
Life Stuff: It has been an adventure settling back into weddings while Matt is also settling back into working side gigs. As freelancers, we’re both primed to not say no to jobs. There have been a lot of times when we couldn’t say no to jobs. And after being unemployed for much of the pandemic, we’re still in the mindset of needing to work as much as possible. But we also need to work on finding a balance because there is most definitely such a thing as being overworked and after this month, we’ll both be toeing the line. Luckily, November and December are slower months for me with weddings (though I will still be on deadline and also working on Pitch Wars) so maybe we’ll get a bit of a breather. Maybe.
Wish me luck, friends, that I don’t perish from exhaustion before next month’s round up! Hope to see you then!
