I’m writing this post on September 2, which is banana pants because there’s no way it’s actually September. Does this not believing how fast time flies dance get old every month? I swear, time is moving at an accelerated rate, it can’t be just me. Remember way back when when we were like 2021 is going to be so much better than 2020? L.O.L. Ah to be young and have so much faith in humanity. But anyway. Here we are. Let’s take a look back at August!
Reading: I read nineteen books in August, which honestly can mostly be attributed to the fact that the kid went back to school and I’m drowning my anxiety in rom-coms. Also the kid is back in school and I have time to read during the day! I read A LOT of really good books in August, so definitely check out my monthly faves post to add to your TBR (you’re welcome). It’s hard to pick, but I would say my top three were The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris, and The Charm Offensive by Alison Cochrun.
Writing: I TURNED IN THE FIRST DRAFT OF BOOK TWO! It’s terrible and I hate it most days, but it’s done. Writing your second book is a mind fuck, y’all. The struggle was real, and I know I have a lot of revising ahead of me, but it is done. The sophomore slump definitely hit me hard so I’m just hoping something can be salvaged from the mess! And Lease on Love is now less than five months from debut! I still can’t believe it, but it’s becoming more real as reviews and ratings are starting to come in (*insert terrified emoji here*). I can’t believe my book baby will be in the world soon! Also, in other writing related news, I’m going to be a Pitch Wars mentor this year! So excited and can’t wait to start reading submissions!
Movies and TV: I actually braved another trip to the theater to see The Green Knight! All I will say about that one is thank god Dev Patel is pretty. On the television front, I’ve been watching a lot of Ted Lasso (duh), and while I really enjoyed the first season of Why Women Kill, I’ve been struggling to get into season two. Also, I am LIVING for this season of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills #TeamGarcelle #TeamSutton
Life Stuff: So yeah, as noted, the kid is back in school. We had a positive case in his class on the fifth day so needless to say, it has been a roller coaster of emotion. On the one hand, being back in school is a fantastic break for all of our mental health. He is making friends and having fun and, as an only child, he desperately needed this time back with his peers. On the other hand, I live in fear of the phone ringing and hearing the news the kid has been exposed (again!). It’s a lot. But I’m trying to keep a positive attitude and praying to the vaccine gods that kids get approval soon.
What a month, what a year, what a mind fuck of a time we’re living in. Thanks for stopping in, now go donate to a Texas abortion fund.
