So at least one of you fine people has clicked on that cute little link in the right hand sidebar that leads to my Bookshop page (thank you!), but I wanted to take a minute to highlight my shop, as well as Bookshop as a whole, for all of you who might not know what it is. As we all know, buying books from Amazon is not the best for bookstores (I mean, if Amazon is your only option, then by all means, use it, it’s better to buy books, period). Luckily, we now have bookshop.org to solve all of our book shopping problems. Bookshop is great for a couple of main reasons. One, independent bookstores can create their own link and share it on their site. If customers purchase books from said link, the store receives a commission based on the total amount of the sale. Right now especially when a lot of indie stores have become one man/woman operations, this is a great way to support them while also saving them the labor of having to put your order together and ship it. The other reason I love Bookshop is because bloggers can create their own bookshops and earn commissions as well. And that’s the main thing I want to share with you today! I’ve been working on “stocking” my shop and I wanted to share some of the features I love.
While I won’t speak for all bloggers, I will say that I have read every single book in my shop. All of these books have been vetted by me personally, so if you tend to like my recommendations, this is a great place for you to shop.
My shop has a bunch of different lists and sections, so you can narrow down your search based on the genre you are looking for. My recs mostly focus on romance and YA, but I’m sure I will be adding in other genres as I continue to add to and expand my storefront.
Probably my favorite thing about Bookshop and putting together my lists is that I have the option to write a little blurb about each book. This is awesome because it allows me to tell you why I loved it and included it in my shop, but it’s also a super handy way to provide readers with content warnings right there on the site before you buy. I’m still working on adding in personal notes for all my lists, but you can see a couple of examples on these listings below.
As a customer, I’ve ordered a couple of times from Bookshop during quarantine and it’s been great. Does it take longer than Amazon? Yup. Does it cost a bit more? Yup. Is it worth it to me to support indie bookstores? Hells yes. If you’re looking for an alternative to the ‘zon, I could not recommend Bookshop more. And of course, if you’re heading that way, please make sure you check out my shop! Happy book buying!
