Aight. So I’m a huge Eva Leigh fan. She is one of the first historical authors I read who really pulled me into historicals as a sub-genre and I find her stories so captivating and her characters so full realized. Also, her books are hot. Would I Lie to the Duke is the second book in her eighties pop culture trilogy, which as a concept on its own had me completely sold. I really enjoyed My Fake Rake, but honestly, I think this one is even better.

Jessica McGale is a down home country girl turned serious businesswoman. After her parents’ deaths, she took over their soap making company and is determined to take the business to the next level. Unfortunately, after a fire damages their farm’s operations, Jess needs to find an investor in order to get the company back on its feet. When she is turned away by every store in London, she starts to feel like it might be a lost cause. Until she has a chance run in with Noel, better known as the Duke of Rotherby. Jess poses as a widowed woman looking to invest her money in small companies and wrangles herself an invite to an exclusive club who hears business pitches from business owners who need capital. Jess plans to subtly plant seeds about investing in her soap company throughout the club’s summit, but she doesn’t expect to be so drawn to Noel–or to feel so bad about lying to him. The whole plan of course goes awry, but the ending to this one was a bit unexpected (in a good way). Of course they find a way to make it work and live happily ever after.

So first and foremost, I freakin’ loved Jess so much and so hard. She is smart and sassy and knows her shit and she is like the perfect example of what it means to be a boss. I also totally fell in love with the other members of the club (most of them) who were smart, inclusive, and diverse. But the shining star of this story for me is Noel. Noel is this perfect unicorn combination of cocky and down to earth. He’s a manly man, but he submits to Jess in ways that are both sweet and tender and hot as fuck. And the way he handles the explosion of the lie at the end is absolutely one of the best endings I have ever read. I did not expect it to go the way it did, and it made me SO HAPPY. I legit cried, and it was perfect and I loved it. And in addition to all of that character and story stellar-ness, the sex scenes in this book are off the charts, bananas good. So good. So yeah, read this book y’all. And if you haven’t already, I’m sure it will lead you down the amazing rabbit hole that is Eva’s backlist.
