First and foremost, I absolutely love Andie. I feel like I know her because I’m such a Wicked Wallflowers Club devotee, and Andie’s appearances on the podcast are some of my faves. She’s also great on Twitter, which is a quality I appreciate in a writer. I absolutely loved Not the Girl You Marry and I have been anxiously awaiting Not That Kind of Guy for a long time. All that being said, this one left me with kind of a mixed bag of emotions.

Bridget is the definition of devoted to her job. A lawyer for (what I can only think of as) a Special Victims Unit, she prosecutes rapists and sexual assaulters and she doesn’t take shit from anyone. She’s also in a shit ton of debt because law school plus public service job. When she finds out she has to take on a rich kid intern for the summer, she balks, but her boss tells her this rich kid’s family runs a fellowship and should she get along with rich kid, he might be able to put in a good word for her and she’ll get the money to pay off her loans. Enter Matt. Matt is in law school, comes from a wealthy and powerful family, and is not at all what Bridget expects him to be. He’s also super hot. Despite some sexual tension, nothing happens during their working relationship, but once Matt is no longer her intern, he decides to go for it, first by offering to accompany her to Vegas for her brother and sister in law’s (Jack and Hannah from NTGYM) bachelor/ette weekend. Since her ex Chris happens to be a groomsman, she happily accepts. The two have some fun together and wake up the next morning hungover and married, presenting them both with all kinds of problems. But they also see an opportunity to use their marriage to their advantage while they wait out the mandatory divorce period. But of course, with advantages comes issues, and these two have quite a few. Luckily, this is a romance, so they work it all out in the end and live happily ever after.

Okay. So I would say for the first quarter of this book, I was in love. It was already a five star read in my mind. I love Bridget and Matt. I love their chemistry, and I loved that nothing happened between them while she was his boss. But I kind of lost my love a little through the middle portion of the book. Bridget’s main issue is getting over her breakup with her ex, who she was with for twelve years, and who she’s known since she was a kid. Which is all well and good and definitely relatable. But it was a lot. I would hazard a guess that the name Chris is mentioned in the book at least as much as Matt’s if not more so. I get that she needed to deal with her issues, but there was plenty of other drama and the ex stuff felt like it went on way too long.

But once Bridget got over the ex stuff, I absolutely loved the last quarter of the book. I thought the ending and how everything all played out was so well done. It definitely tugged on the heartstrings, but at the same time, I liked how normal it felt. Like Bridget and Matt both dealt with their black moment and their reconciliation in a way that felt realistic to me, but was still gratifying as a grand gesture.

Aside from the Bridget and Matt storylines, I loved checking in with Jack and Hannah and seeing their wedding, that was super fun. I also am reeeeeallly hoping all the Sasha/Father Patrick stuff is going to lead us to a hot for priest next book. Yes please. Overall, I enjoyed the book and will always be looking forward to the next one from Andie.

Overall Rating: 4.5 stars
