Title: Girl Gone Viral
Author: Alisha Rai
Sub-genre: Contemporary
Trope(s): Bodyguard
Being a social media junkie, I was super excited to dive into Girl Gone Viral. I really loved Right Swipe and had no personal connection to it, so I knew I was going to love this one even more. And it did not disappoint!
Katrina is a former model who suffers from panic attacks and PTSD from a couple of traumatic events in her past. Because she feels safer in spaces she is familiar with, she basically stays in her home in Santa Barbara, sometimes venturing out to local cafes, but mostly staying put in her big ass house. Jas is her bodyguard/head of security. He is former military, and started working for Katrina’s ex-husband, who passed away (Katrina and her former husband had more of a friendship than a marriage, there were no romance love feelings involved). Jas and Katrina both harbor an attraction for each other, but because of their professional boundaries, deny deny deny. When Katrina is caught up in a viral Twitter post, Jas takes her to his family’s farm to hide out and avoid any chance of her identity being uncovered. The two stay together in his farmhouse, and you know what happens next.
I really needed something sweet and happy (and hot) and funny and well-written with the world burning all around us, and I am so thankful that this book provided exactly what I needed. Katrina and Jas’s relationship has just the right amount of heat, love, and friendship. I loved that they each had some personal issues to deal with, and I loved how they supported each other through that process. I really love a closed off hero, and that is definitely Jas. Alisha has a really fantastic way of dealing with some heavier issues without the story feeling overwrought. This was the perfect read for me right now and I loved every second of it!
