Title: Get a Life, Chloe Brown
Author: Talia Hibbert
Publication Date: November 5, 2019
Sub-genre: Contemporary
Heat Level: Hawt
Every so often I read a book that makes me want to quit writing. Not in a bad way, just in an oh my god I will never be able to write like this kind of way. I’m not actually going to quit writing, though I don’t think I will ever be able to write as gorgeously as Talia Hibbert.
Get a Life, Chloe Brown is about a woman named Chloe Brown (I imagine you gathered that much on your own). She has fibromyalgia and has lived at home her entire adult life. Her parents are extremely wealthy, but Chloe still works as a graphic designer. After a somewhat scary incident, Chloe decides to move out on her own for the first time. She moves into an apartment where she meets Red, her building’s super. Red is big and handsome and mysterious and sweet. He also likes to paint with no shirt on while standing in his window. Chloe’s not mad about that. Chloe makes a list of things she wants to do (like get drunk and go camping) and Red decides to help her tick off all her boxes. Red’s ex-girlfriend was emotionally abusive and he’s still dealing with some issues stemming from that. Chloe doesn’t think anyone will ever want to deal with her chronic illness so she’s dealing with some issues stemming from that. But the two of them just work. Duh.
Guys, the prose in this book is killer. The way that Talia writes the words is nothing short of stunning. Her descriptions and dialogue and voice are off the charts. If you are a romance writer, this should be required reading. If you are a romance reader, then you’re gonna love this book. What I loved about it was the real world conflict. Sometimes conflict in romance novels is off the charts bananas and so many things happen that would never happen in real life and it leaves me baffled. Definitely not the case here. Chloe and Red’s issues are mostly internal, but they have to figure out how to deal with them in order to be fully open to a new relationship. Also, there’s some yowza dirty talk that was on. point.
Overall, I can’t recommend this one more. I loved every second of it and I’m dying for the second book!
Overall Rating: 5 stars y’all!
